San Diego for Every Child and Jewish Family Service of San Diego launched a guaranteed income project to combat the racial and gender inequalities of child poverty. The program provided an unconditional cash payment of $500 per month for 24 months to 150 randomly selected families who lived in ZIP codes that were disproportionately affected by COVID-19 and with high rates of child poverty. The initiative aimed to reduce child poverty and generate insights into the underlying causes by illuminating the systems-level changes needed to create a San Diego that works for every child.
